Get away from the winter and join Maggie Kessell of River Bend Yoga and Mats On A Mission for a gloriously warm and thoroughly relaxing week of yoga at Haramara Retreat in Sayulita Mexico. Sayulita is a charming village located on the Central Pacific Coast of mainland Mexico. Haramara Retreat is an eco-friendly, beautiful secluded yoga center.  Enjoy quiet time at their private beach or the infinity pool; get a massage; eat gourmet meals and tune out the world.  You can also take a short 20 minute walk into Sayulita and enjoy the local shops and restaurants.

Yoga is about transformation—transforming our own life at one or more levels: the physical, the mental, the emotional, the spiritual. Often it is suffering on one of these levels that awakens us to the need for transformation. Whether you wish to stretch or strengthen a tight or weak back, improve your digestion, change a negative thought pattern, or get past a stuck emotion in your heart, yoga offers a means to begin those changes.
In the supportive atmosphere of Haramara, we can let our bodies and minds soften and open, enabling the deep work of transformation through asana (postures), pranayama (breath work) chanting, meditation, and the guidance of select Yoga Sutras.

In the spirit of open-heartedness that is key to this retreat, we ask each person participating to make a donation of time or money to Smile Network International in support of the life-changing work they do.  Smile Network International is a local Minnesota nonprofit humanitarian organization that helps bring smiles to kids in developing countries by performing life-changing cleft lip and palate surgeries—reconstructing lives, one bright smiling face
at a time.

Travel arrangements

Plan to fly in and out of the Puerto Vallarta airport (PVR).  We recommend arriving by the early-late afternoon on Saturday to adequately settle in. The airport is 45 minutes away from Haramra.  Transportation from the airport to Haramara and back to the airport will be arranged once everyone has his or her arrival and departure times. You can choose to be picked up by van or take the local bus and a taxi to Haramara. Information will be provided once flights are determined.

Enjoy a secluded cabana with private bath & hand woven sheets. Each cabana is designed to be open air with no window or screen to let the Pacific breezes gently engulf you. Gauze curtains and drapes will give you privacy.
All have stunning ocean and/or jungle views
There are no phones or internet at Haramara, so you can completely unplug.
If you would like to use the phone or internet you will need to go into the town of Sayulita, about 20 minutes away.
There is no electricity in the cabanas. They are illuminated at night with oil lamps and candles. If you want to read at night, you will need to bring a book light with you. There is, however, electricity in the Yoga Pavilion and the Restaurant for recharging batteries.

Gourmet Meals

Haramaras delicious and healthy gourmet meals are made from only the freshest natural and local ingredients. The menu is chosen daily by our chef based on the ingredients that are available that day. The always-changing daily menu includes seafood or vegetarian dishes. With advance notice, special dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Coffee and fresh squeezed juice is offered in the mornings. Tea, purified water and fresh fruit water are available all day. Beer, wine and margaritas are available for purchase in the afternoons and at dinner.

About Maggie Kessell

Maggie began practicing yoga in the 1960s, finding it to be a constant grounding to her sense of self through many life changes. In the 90s she studied with Faye Berton in St. Paul, and then with Gary Kraftsow in Maui, completing his 500 hour teacher training and studying yoga therapy with him. Maggie studies Vedic Chant with Sonia Nelson, in Santa Fe, bringing her love of music into her yoga practice. Founding Riverbend Yoga in 1999, Maggie has taught all levels of asana classes, and workshops in many aspects of yoga: pranayama, philosophy, and study of the Yoga Sutras. In winter retreats to Mexico, she weaves together the threads of yoga with the sun, the wind, and the waves of the ocean.
